Maria completed her Master's degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Alcala, where she worked as a research assistant in Dr. Santiago Ropero's laboratory studying the epigenetic mechanisms underlying castration resistance in prostate tumors. After completing her master's, she joined the Hereditary Endocrine Cancer group at the Spanish National Oncologic Research Center (CNIO) to work on the genetic and molecular characterization of renal tumors, with the goal of using this information to improve patients’ diagnosis and current oncologic treatments. In 2021, she obtained her Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Cristina Rodriguez.

Maria joined the Babraham Institute in 2022 to participate in a collaborative project with Lonza Biologics. She is now interested in better understanding enhancer biology through the use of cutting-edge and high-throughput genomics methods on the Chinese Hamster Ovary cell line.
