Dr. Cortes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She obtained she PhD from the University of Chicago focusing on autophagy mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of genetic prion disorders. She did her postdoc at the University of California San Diego, working on the role of autophagy dysfunction in polyglutamine disease. Her lab focuses on exercise-associated proteostasis regulating pathways as novel neuroprotectants for brain aging and age-associated neurodegenerative disease, focusing on skeletal muscle circulating factors.
